Grand Illusion Progress

Slowly I'm getting my GIM put together. 15 blocks made and one row complete.
It's colorful and it's okay.

But,
I should have gathered my fabrics together, taken a picture and looked at it in gray scale....
 before I started cutting.
In my opinion, my fabrics are too close in value.

However, just like I encouraged another mystery maker on Quiltville's Open Studio Facebook page, "When it's all put together it will be just fine."

Have you joined in some other QAL's ?
If you have, I would love to know what they are so I can check them out !
I'll be linking this post up with Quiltville's Mystery Monday linkup
There, you can look and see how other peoples quilts are turning out.
and linking with
Sew Fresh Quilts

Have a very blessed week !

I'm not sure it's your fabric, I think the quilt's just too busy, especially the sashing! There's a lot going on in the design. My first MQ, oh well, live and learn.

I think it looks pretty good. It's fun to watch it all come together, looks quite different from when you had stacks of blocks.

I see what you mean, but I still think it's really pretty. Your color choices look much better than many that I've seen. The grayscale idea is great. Hang in there... I think you'll be pleased when it's all put together!

I love how yours turned out. Sometimes the block by itself isn't great, but put together they look pretty fabulous.

I like your colours very much, loving the orange ? And especially love love grey in a quilt !

I really like your blocks together. There's still enough contrast to make your blocks fun and sparky. I think it's going to look amazing when it's all put together.

I think your quilt will be just fine. It's just different and there is nothing wrong about that. Remember Herbie who didn't want to make toys, but be a dentist? LOL

Even if it isn't the look you were shooting for it still looks beautiful!

I really like it, but I always enjoy and grand mixture of colours. It always makes me happy when something is bright and cheerful. Thanks for sharing.

I see what you mean by there not being a lot of contrast in the black and white photo but I really like how your row looks! I think piecing the entire top (and quilting) will pleasantly surprise you.

Looks fine to me, but what a great idea, to check a design in grey scale before committing...I'll file that tip away for a future day!

I agree with others. Thus is such a busy quilt. I love how your orange pops and really makes those blocks spin!!

I love the color values. It might not have that much contrast, but it makes a beautiful quilt.

If it is a quilt .... it will be loved :) You have been working hard on this. Sometimes quilts just need some distance. i have worked on some quilts and as I go along I get less in love with something.( Probably the reason I have so many projects in gestation). But when I have the quilting done and the binding on the love returns. It will be a happy quilt with Pat's fabric. Proud of you for cranking this out right on schedule. :)

I discovered a while ago that I am not the best mystery girl. I have to see the finished quilt to know what fabric I want to use. You have been brave. Enjoy it. Thanks for sharing what you learned. I like the idea of taking a picture of your fabric to see how it reads. I have tried squinting. Pictures sound easier :)

Looking forward to the finished photos!

Janita

It seems like a very busy quilt, but with the colors you chose I think it blends together nicely. Lookin' good!
