Day #5 of the Black Tie Boogie

Welcome

Today is my day to show you what I made for the BTB hop
and the chicks below are who I get to cluck with today !

November 25

I made a couple of quilts for this hop,  the first one is
 "Hole in the Chicken Wire"

I took it outside to show my rooster critic....Fonzie.
He inspected it very closely.
Rooster on the left...

 Rooster in the middle....

 Rooster on the right !

Flapping his wings.... his way of clapping his approval !
Thearica of Pig Tales and Quilts and I are huge fans of Florine Johnson's Radical Roosters, so we  decided we would make similar quilts for this hop. Hers would be albino roosters on black fabric and mine would be black roosters on white. We used Florines patterns and incorporated the Hole in the Barn Door quilt pattern into it, but the design would be an individual choice . I collected white on black fabrics for several months.
(Notice the chicken feet quilted on the borders,TOO CUTE!)

Each piece is raw edge appliqued.
There's 28 pieces in this one called Rowdy !
I think he looks like he's running for the hole in the chicken wire.
Some chickens are escape artists and can squeeze through a very small hole !

This is the picture of Fonzie
I'm partial to this guy, so I made a fabric portrait of him !

"The Other Fonzie" also raw edge applique.
I tried a new to me way to bind this one....rattail binding, I learned how by watching this video by Carol Ann Waugh.

The Other Fonzie might have some admirers!

Have a great day and God bless you.

Black Tie Boogie

Yeah ! It starts Tuesday !
I'm so excited to share the schedule for this rooster/fowl inspired hop !
This is my own handsome young rooster, Fonzie (with the big comb), (Happy Days fans will get that) !
Before I show you the schedule, Fonzie and I have some BAD news to share with you....

Henrietta, the one on the left, ....has passed...away....
I know, it's such sad news....here's the facts as we know them.
I (Vickie) went out to feed the chickens some scraps one afternoon, several weeks ago about 3:00 p.m.
All was well in the chicken pen......
Everyone was happily chasing grasshoppers, scratching, pecking and repeating.
That evening around 9:00 p.m. I went out to put the Ranch Patrol up for the night,
(it's too risky to let them stay out at night because of the coyotes and feral hogs).
Right by the gate, there lay Henrietta, stiff a a board and dead as a door nail !
I screamed at Ranchman to come out there,
"What happened" I asked him ? "Well Vickie, it's a chicken, who knows".
We finally deducted it must have been from some natural cause, maybe she choked on a grasshopper, or maybe she was snake bit. We'll never know......
Fonzie got over Henrietta's death pretty quick, when Ranchman brought home two new chicks for the henhouse !
I'll reveal the two new gals to you sometime during the Black Tie Boogie hop.

We're all happy now and I can't wait to see what was created by all these talented people you see listed below.

A Quilt for Isabella

Are you looking for Black Tie Boogie info?
It can be found right HERE
We still have some spaces left just for YOU !

I made this quilt for my brother and sister-in-law"s youngest granddaughter, Isabella.
Isn't that a sweet name !
She has a very unique story, which I have included below.
I got my pattern for it from Angela, of Quilts with a Heart you can also find her on Facebook

My SIL Sharon, mailed me a photo of Isabella that I incorporated in the label.
I had made a quilt for my youngest Granddaughter Raychel , when she was a tiny baby that has her picture on it......  her Mama informed me recently that it's her favorite and she has to cover up with it every night....
so I thought Isabella might like a quilt with her picture on it too.

Isabella is the daughter of Darin and the late Jane Halme Larson. Isabella has defied odds since before birth. Darin and Jane tried to add to their family and they had a couple of miscarriages. Once Jane became pregnant with Isabella there was much joy. But that became worry when it was found that Isabella was actually twins! Within weeks it was apparent that something was wrong. Jane lost one of the twins. After many scary months on July 9th, 2012 Isabella Hope was born. Hope is her middle name because Jane and Darin so hoped, and prayed for this little girl.

When Isabella was 3 months old in October of 2012 her mommy, Jane bent over on a Saturday morning to pick up a wet towel off the floor and got a blinding headache. She was rushed to the hospital where it was found she had a brain bleed. She had surgery and we thought everything was going to be alright. It wasn't. On Oct. 21st, 2012 Jane Anne Halme Larson died and left behind many heartbroken people.
In February of 2013 Isabella was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) in her skin and scalp, which was treated with creams and periodic MRI scans. Then in June after a routine scan her doctors noticed something behind her ear and she was sent to a specialist to see if her LCH had spread, it had. Isabella then had a port placed in her chest and she had her first chemo on July 9th, 2013- Yes, that's right, on her FIRST Birthday! With the hard pregnancy, Jane's hospital stay and funeral cost and now chemo cost, this family could use some help.

Here is a little about her family- Her daddy is Darin Larson and she has a 5 year old brother Noah. Maternal Grandma, Anne Halme, Uncle Paul Halme and his family in Texas, Paternal Grandma Sharon of Harrold, South Dakota, Uncles Kevin and Galin and families.
There are MANY other family and friends who love this family very much!

Here is a background on LCH -It's a histiocytic disorder that occurs when the body accumulates too many immature Langerhans cells which are a type of white blood cell that normally helps the body fight off infection. In LCH too many Langerhans cells are produced and build up in certain parts of the body where they can form tumors and while it's not considered a cancer it’s treated with chemotherapy.

A silent auction and spaghetti dinner will be held on Saturday October 19, 2013 at the Old 77 Banquet Hall in Dell Rapids, SD.
