A Picnic with Lovely You and a giveaway too

Welcome to the 5th day of "A Perfect Picnic" blog hop.
Madame Samm had the great blog hop idea to get our creative juices flowing.
Mary, thank you for planning and organizing our picnic schedule. You did a fabulous job darling !
A special thank you goes out to Riley Blake Designs for the red and white polka dot laminate fabric I used for the foundation and inspiration in creating my quilts.
Thank you to Cori from Chitter Chatter Designs . I can't decide which of her patterns I want.......
Well, yes I can.........ALL OF THEM !
And also to Peterboro Basket Co for being a sponsor in our hop.

When I started planning my picnic quilt, I was doing a lot of praying for rain on our dry and parched  part of Texas.
I suppose that's part of the reason why I chose to use Bonnie and Camille's "April Showers" fabric line.
Rain showers, remind me of how beautiful everything looks when the ground gets
a good ole drink a water.
Prayers were answered about 10 days ago...
We got a little over 8 inches of rain and things greened up in a hurry !  That's something to SING about !

This hop was very timely, because  Lexcey, has been visiting for a few weeks. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to make a memory. She said, 'Let's have a picnic in the back yard"....so that's exactly what we did.

We gathered up my new quilts and some really good goodies !
Chocolate, grapes and a camera for me, strawberries, baby dills and a book for her.
We added Wheat Thins and mozzarella for good measure.
It all went in my friend Nancy's antique picnic basket, and away we walked !

I made two quilts that can be interchanged with the lined laminate by simply tying bows on all 4 corners.....
You can sit on one, cover up with the other.
AND..... it will be really easy to wash the quilts when I need to !

I love making the classic old quilt patterns in today's beautiful fabrics.

Quilt One is the good ole' standard 9 patch with  an appliqued cloud, rain drops and an umbrella.
The blue I used for the background really "floats my boat"....I wish I had an entire bolt of it !
I should name this quilt, "Singing in the Rain".
I hope you watch this video....it will just make you feel  good !

I love old movies, so when I'm sewing, I turn the TV to TCM  and listen to it.

Here is the Lovely, Lizard Loving, Lexcey relaxing with a book after our picnic.
You can read about Mozart the lizard Here and HERE.

Our photo shoot was as much fun as the picnic !

Quilt Two is one of my favorite patterns...Churn-dash.

The backing on it is Riley Blake's medium polka dot that exactly matches the laminate.

"The Ranch Night Patrol" found his way to Lexcey, the food and the quilts.
I think he thought, he was going to fill up and take a siesta.  No no Smokey Joe !

  We had fun!

Now, how about....Let's have a giveaway !
Angela of Quilts With A Heart has generously offered this April Showers jellyroll to give to one of you !

Here's how you could win it !

First, your quilts are gorgeous. I love them both! Your granddaughter is so beautiful! How sweet that she had so much fun with you! I went to Quilts with a Heart and I check out her extra wide backs fabric. I am making a quilt that I want to try that on and she has so many to choose from! Most places only have a few. How great is that. Thanks for your lovely picnic photos Vickie.

I know you had fun, fun, fun with Lex. I'm leaving next Saturday for two weeks with my daughter and family. I knew I'd have the two boys (3 and 8) for a week while she and her husband go to Las Vegas. She asked me to stay another week - they don't have me come just to babysit. Well, I got a note today. One of her good friends since 2nd grade asked her about a girls' weekend in Dallas. So, she'll might be home 4 days of the 2 weeks I'm there. I'll leave the day after she gets back from Dallas. I'll have fun, fun, fun with the boys. I want them to have good memories of me and things we did together. I love your quilts and I love that the laminate is "reusable" with more than one quilt. You are very, very clever. Isn't it amazing that a cat is drawn to a quilt as much as food? Maybe it was the food? I love the fabric and it is perfect for all the rain that is hitting the Midwest right now. I'm thrilled you had a good picnic in the backyard and having great fun with Lex. Thanks for participating in the hop; creating wonderful projects; creating a yummy picnic; and creating a lasting memory of the picnic (and other events) with Lex. I think you will have lots of entries for the jelly roll. It has beautiful fabrics. I've been looking at that collection.
When I visited Quilts with a Heart, I was immediately drawn to the Retreat Star quilt. That made me have to see what other eye candy caught my eye. I guess it would be easier to say what I wasn't as fond of. I love her quilting. All the BOM are amazing. I just want to quilt, quilt, quilt.

Miss Vickie ... your quilts and picnic look wonderful! I am so happy that you had some beautiful rain and green for your picnicing with your granddaughter. We have had a lot of rain here this spring; wish we could send some to everyone who needs it.
I love the way you made the removeable laminate backing for your quilts. It is the prettiest "drop cloth" that I have ever seen. I like the ribbons on the corner to tie it on ... or tie it down. I am picturing a handmade laminated camping and picnic canopy to keep the coastal showers off my outdoor dining. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, also, for the fun giveaway. I enjoyed the online quilt shop hopping at Quilts with a Heart. Those Michael Miller Krystals on sale sure caught me eye.
Thanks for sharing your picninc ... :) Pat

Good morning Vickie! I just love reading your posts. It always makes me feel like I've come over for a cup of coffee and a good chat :) your quilts are so lovely, the color choices, design and ideas for the laminate! It is great to put a face to lovely Lexie, the lizard lover....for some reason, I had a ten year old pictured :)
I am so glad your ranch had some rain. I hope it was the slow, all day soaking in kind of rain, rather than the downpour, wash away kind of rain.

I love your pictures, especially the ones with her walking away and her beautiful hair hanging over the quilts. Beautiful post, lovely quilt. I know how it is about waiting for rain. In Namibia, we had 10 months of dust and sun, and the 2 months of rain in the year were just paradise. The first rain in the year was always followed by parties until the morning dawn.....

I think Bonnie and Camille might be my favorite fabric designers. Neat to see your interpretation of their April Showers line. I think that the Shoofly/ChurnDash is my favoritei though, as I lean to the traditional patterns. Clever idea with the laminate detachable to the quilts can be cuddled too.

First, let me say that I'm so glad you've gotten rain. I'll pray that you receive more as I know it's more than parched down there.
I've seen that Beatle Bag that Quilts has and think it's fantastic. I love the heavy-duty plastic inserts. I must (I've set myself some goals.) complete some of my UFOs before beginning something new - even if it is a small project.
Both of your quilts are wonderful though my favorite is the churn dash - also a favorite block of mine. Your idea to have the laminate detachable was inspired espeially when you added the ties to keep it in place. Perfect!!
