Working Toward a Goal

It's been nearly a month since I last blogged !
Several people have emailed me to see if I'm alright or just taking a break from blogging.
What the deal is.... is that I've been doing lots of sewing... sewing like a mad woman.

My goal is to use up some of my older fabric, stacks of different size squares, quilt blocks I didn't use, or fabric I've been hanging on to for no apparent reason.
Those are the perfect kinds of fabric to use for charity projects our quilt guild supports.
Check out our guild website @ Brownwood Quilter's Guild

I'll catch you up on my activity ....but beware...there's plenty of pictures !
This pillow is for the Penny Auction we have at guild meetings.
I used left over half square triangles from my Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt
2 pillows tied together here. They are made from blocks I didn't use in a row by row mystery challenge we had. The pattern is from Lori Holt's Quilty Barn Along
This Radical Rooster pillow is for a guild challenge due this month. Last October we were told to bring a magazine to the next meeting....then, in November, numbers from 1-200 were put in a hat....each person drew a number....then you turned to that page number in your magazine. What ever picture was on that page was your inspiration to create ....something.
I took a Grit Magazine and  Lo and BEHOLD, big as life, my page  number had a rooster on it ! You know I can do that ! So I just used a block I had leftover from my Hole in the Chicken Wire quilt . Patterns for the Radical Roosters can be found at the creators website, Florine Johnson

Last months guild BOM was the Jump Ring, a tutorial for it can be found at
Aren't the batiks pretty ! Thank you LaTrelle !
I made some more CPS bags. We make CPS bags (Child Protective Service) that are given to the local CPS office for distribution to children taken into custody.
Children of all ages use the bags for their personal possessions.
This receiving blanket was made using a tutorial written by Diary of a Quilterl
Our guild sends these to our local hospital for distribution to low income families.

When I said some of the fabrics are 15 years old, these are those. The flannel purse fabric is new, I'm using it for backing. got it at  JoAnn's - on sale - $2.97. Cute huh ?
The dinosaur fabric is from a quilt I made about 17 years ago.
I've gotten 7 pieced baby quilts made for the hospital, they aren't quilted yet,
maybe I'll be able to get that done this weekend.
Sometimes, just sitting down and sewing squares together is sew therapeutic
The pink and white ticking was a dress I bought at the county fair in Fredricksburg, Texas in 1988 ! I decided it was time for it to go.
I made these little bags to hold mystery fabric for a challenge I will present to my guild sisters next Tuesday. My friend Debb Kratovil sent me 8 yards of fabric she had, and I decided to pay it forward and use it for the challenge. I cut the 8 yards into 8, fat eighth bundles. Everyone who would like to participate can put their name in the pot, but only 8 people's names will be drawn.
Debby has graciously consented to choosing the top 3 projects.
I have been working on putting together some good prizes. I tried to get donations from Oliso, Rowenta, Warm & Natural, Hancocks of Paducah, Brother,
Fat Quarter Shop, Fort Worth Fabric Studio, and Missouri Star Quilt Company.
The only ones who came through were the 3 in red. All 3 have wonderful reps who are more than willing to work with you !
I've also been catching up on The Women of the Bible blocks. These are 15" blocks.
These are 12". I'm using Edyta Sitar's fabric.....LOVE< LOVE< LOVE !
Until next time...Adios, God bless you
