Playing around

I've been pinning prayer flags on Pinterest lately...
I've made one flag already that you can read about HERE
But I wanted to experiment with bits and pieces of fabric, lace, buttons
and what ever else I could get my hands on.
I made this is for my oldest sister. I found some ticking and waffle fabric at Walmart....I used a piece of old quilt I had trimmed off when I was squaring up the top before binding it. The white heart was cut from one of the practice/warm up quilt sandwiches I've been keeping lately...now I know why. Yes, Yes, I know the hearts are on crooked, but that's the beauty of this kind of stuff....perfection isn't required.
I sewed on some pearlized vintage buttons.... three hearts/buttons  represent the Holy Trinity.

This is for one of my other sisters.
The doily has a hole in the middle of it, so I put a very pretty vintage diamond button in it.
This reminds me of something I've heard....
we all have a hole in our heart that only God can fill.

I was looking through some of my Dad's stuff the other day and
found an old post card he had written my Mother on October 18,1948.
52 days later she would give birth to twin baby girls. Daddy was up in Tulia, Texas working on a combine crew and Mom was staying in Coleman, Texas close to Grandma and Grandpa.

One of the things he asked was
"Honey is it very cold in the house your staying in ?".
Who knows what the conditions were back then. He said
"I know one thing, this is the last time I'm going away like this, is there any work around home ?
                                                              All my Love Aubrey"

Daddy wrote this postcard in pencil, so I put tulle over it to keep it from smearing.
The lace at the bottom is some vintage lace that dates back to the 1940's or earlier,
so I thought it would be most appropriate.
Little did they know that 8 years and 364 days later they would have me....SURPRISE !
My parents married October 30,1944 and had 5 children, they had been divorced for 40 years when my Dad passed away, but he still had things that reminded him of her. That just blesses me.
I love this little treasure !
You have a blessed day too !
