Beauty Among the Thorns

I have a word I made up, I'm going to call it... hexaphobia.
Webster Dictionary's definition of a hexagon - a figure with 6 sides,
phobia - an irrational, excessive, and persistent fear dislike of some particular thing.
Put them together and you have hexaphobia .
and this is what it looks like!....
91....1 and 1/2 inch double knit, hexagons from....H_E_double X !
A  thorn in my side +15 more !

If you would like to know how I was affected by hexagons,
you can read "the rest of the story" by clicking  here !

So, picking up where the story left off, I signed up for this hop then realization set in,
"WHAT the world did I just DO ?  I HATE  really dislike hexies !"
Finally, the day came when I couldn't put it off any longer, I said,
"Vickie, it's time to get over it and get busy."
So, I went to my scrap drawer and pulled out some unbleached muslin...
and used this ruler by Marti Michelle,
(which I will give 5 Roosters),
 to cut this hexie.
"What was I gonna do with this thing
I sure wasn't going to sew a bunch of them together,
been there, done that, ain't doin it again !
I sat there staring at it..... it looks like a morning glory"! ( Yep, I said it out loud )
Then the light bulb lit up ! I had taken a Craftsy class from Lola Jenkins , and loved it !
"I can use the thread art technique I learned from her to make ......
Beauty Among the Thorns"
There is another story in John 19 about thorns that took place more than 2,000 years ago. It starts off like this....
they twisted together a crown of thorns and placed it on His head.......

I had some scripture fabric I had been saving for the right project and it has the word glory in it !
I love the look of it in this quilt.

Raw edge applique is my favorite applique method... btw, this is all done on my new Janome.
First, I FMQed the center of the flower, then used Prisma pencils to color them. Then I put batting behind it and used a blanket stitch to applique it. I took a couple of stitches right in the center, to give it a puffed up 3D effect, and mimicked the flowers with the quilting.

While I was quilting bubbles between the  blades of grass, I was singing "Tiny Bubbles"

This wall hanging was "sew" much fun to make !
I am happy to report,  I am healed of hexaphobia !
I wasn't traumatized for life after all !
Soon, I may even try to do some hexies with those little templates and papers ....but I didn't say how soon !
Thank you  Debby for all your work and sweet emails to keep us informed,
and to our friend  Madame Samm for reminding us to
Please check out the Hexie Queens sharing this day with me !
Day 3: Thursday, August 22
More Stars in Comanche (you're here, right now)

Oh, I almost forgot !
 (There's got to be a chicken in this...right ?)
While I was outside this morning taking pictures,
I caught Henrietta at work.
She said to say HI Y'all !
Tomorrow I'll be off to the retreat  with my new sewing machine and new jammies in hand !

While I'm there, I'm going to pick up something nice to give to one of you !
I don't know what yet, but I'll know it when I see it.
Tell me what block or thing YOU hate  really dislike to sew.
I'll announce the winner the last day of the hop and I will be happy to mail it anywhere.
Have a great day and God bless you.
